Overview

Plumber Apprenticeship

Location:

Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. Contract Type:
Fixed Term Apprenticeship. Salary:
Offering the nationally agreed apprentice pay rates, plus excellent company benefits (you will be paid for your normal working hours plus your attendance at college).

Training Provider – SNIPEF

Start Date – 3 August 2026 (Provisional)

Entry Criteria for roles – Nat 5 English, Maths, preferably Physics / Pre-apprenticeship / Potential to work towards SVQ level 6 & 7. Candidates will undertake a pre-employment assessment and interview.

What does a life as a Plumber look like

As a Plumber you will be installing, commissioning and de-commissioning, repairing, and maintaining gas systems and appliances. You will be able to provide our customers with products and services that help them have peace of mind by assisting them to understand how their appliances work and how to manage their energy usage efficiently.

The apprenticeship course will cover the following
:

  • Apply Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation in the Building Services Engineering Sector
  • Establish and Maintain Good working Relationships in the Building Services Engineering Sector
  • Perform Electrical Work on Mechanical Building Services Systems
  • Install and Test Plumbing and Heating Systems
  • Service and Maintain Plumbing and Heating Systems
  • Commission Plumbing Systems
  • Decommission Plumbing Systems
  • Install Sheet Weathering Protection
  • Emergent Technologies
What do you need to be a successful applicant
  • Potential to work at SCQF level 7
  • The ability and desire to learn and develop a thorough knowledge of the skills, technology and safety procedures required to carry out the full range of tasks.
  • You must live in a commutable distance to independently travel to and from the branch
  • Strong communication skills
  • Be able to establish and maintain good customer/client relationships
  • Candidates will undertake a pre-employment assessment
  • You must live within a North Lanarkshire postcode and be able to independently travel to and from the branch
What will I learn through the apprenticeship programme?

With 30 years’ experience of delivering market-leading repairs and maintenance services, Mears is trusted to deliver more than 6,000 repairs daily to a portfolio of more than 1,000,000 homes nationwide.

Mears Careers National Apprenticeship Scheme is designed to empower and challenge you; you will be trusted with real work and responsibility from the outset. During your apprenticeship you will have a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn and will receive formal training coupled with working alongside our skilled workforce who will inspire and train you in the practical elements of the trade.

The Plumbing and Domestic Heating apprenticeship programme takes between 18 and 36 months to complete depending on previous experience and qualifications.

At the end of your apprenticeship, you will be registered on the Gas Safe register for each appliance in which you are competent to undertake work on, and if you achieve a pass or distinction, you will be eligible to apply for membership with the IGEM, Institute of Gas Engineers and Managers as an Engineering Technician.

Roles in Gas engineering are physical in nature and may involve lifting and moving equipment, working at height, and working in confined spaces.
