ORLS Branch Manager at the Tessie Norris/Cochran-Bleckley County Library

ORLS is accepting applications for a Branch Manager at the Tessie Norris/Cochran-Bleckley County Library. This position manages the daily operations of a busy public library. Summary of job responsibilities

This is a non-exempt position under the general direction of the local Board of Trustees, leading the day-to-day operations of the Tessie Norris/Cochran-Bleckley County Library, an affiliate library of the Ocmulgee Regional Library System.

Special working conditions

Work in a library environment; sustained posture in a standing or seated position for prolonged periods of time; perform lifting, crouching and pushing; extensive keyboard usage; may travel to other locations.

Minimum qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Current and up-to-date working knowledge of the use of computers and internet technology, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Chrome
  • Minimum two (2) year’s experience in a supervisory position
Preferred qualifications
  • Some college and/or technical school coursework related to librarianship and/or management
  • Some experience in a position involving substantial public contact
  • Experience working in a public library
  • Active Library card account in good standing ($0 balance)
Position Responsibilities

  • Develops, schedules, and implements programming for the library.
  • Maintains digital and non-digital marketing for library events and programs; creates marketing collateral for same.
  • Visits schools and civic groups and makes presentations concerning library programs and services; manages library outreach initiatives engaged in by staff; builds partnerships with local business and organizations.
  • Engage in community relationship building to ensure that we offer materials, services and programs designed to meet patron needs.
  • Serves as liaison to the Friends of the Library Board (if applicable); coordinates fundraising activities; submits spending requests.
  • Makes reports to the Library Board; submits funding requests; maintains board roster and appointments.
  • Assists in developing short and long range plans for county library; evaluates library usage and makes recommendations; develops funding requests and applications to both county and school boards.
  • In partnership with the regional staff: monitors library finances; develops budget proposals; manages approved budgets; seeks sponsorship opportunities; selects and places orders for equipment and supplies; pays invoices, prepares deposits, and maintains financial records; provides financial records for annual AUP or similar review engagement.
  • Trains, assigns, schedules, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
  • Maintains necessary statistical reports of library activities for federal, state, local, and regional library headquarters.
  • Manages aspects of payroll related to part-time employee hours and paid time off.
  • Develops selected areas of the library materials collection; selects materials for purchase; chooses materials for discard; evaluates donated materials.
