About the RoleAs a Senior Tax Accountant, you will lead tax planning, preparation, and consulting engagements for a high-volume portfolio of partnership, S corporation, and individual clients. You will manage multiple concurrent projects, review work prepared by junior staff, and serve as a primary point of contact for clients on complex tax matters. Your work will directly influence client outcomes, ensure compliance, and contribute to the firm's reputation for high-quality, timely service.
Key Responsibilities- Manage end-to-end tax engagements for a high-volume client portfolio, including planning, preparation, review, and filing.
- Prepare and review complex tax returns for partnerships, S corporations, and individuals, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current tax laws.
- Lead and support tax audits, including gathering documentation, responding to inquiries, and representing clients with tax authorities.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies for individual and business clients, focusing on optimization and risk mitigation.
- Oversee and review work performed by junior staff, providing feedback, coaching, and technical guidance.
- Coordinate and prioritize workloads during busy season to meet deadlines across 100+ client engagements.
- Conduct research on complex tax issues and special projects, providing clear recommendations and documentation.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, proactively identifying opportunities for additional advisory and consulting services.
- Significant public accounting experience in tax, with a focus on partnerships, S corporations, and individual clients.
- Proven ability to manage a large client portfolio and multiple concurrent tax engagements, especially during busy season.
- Strong technical expertise in tax planning, preparation, and audit support for closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing tax returns and supervising or mentoring junior tax staff.
- Advanced proficiency with tax preparation software and related research tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and issue-resolution skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
- Comfort working extended hours during an 8-week busy season, with the ability to maintain quality under pressure.
- Experience with special tax projects such as entity restructuring, multi-state filings, or complex individual planning scenarios.
- Prior involvement in tax consulting engagements beyond compliance, such as transactional planning or succession planning.
- Familiarity with workflow management tools and process improvement within a tax practice.
- Exposure to limited C corporation tax work, even if not a primary focus.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- CPA license required.
- Master's degree in Taxation or related discipline preferred.
- Ongoing professional education in tax law changes and best practices strongly preferred.
