Entry‑Level Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer

We are seeking a highly talented Entry‑Level Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer to join the East Region Dams Team, supporting a variety of Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region. The successful candidate will join ENR‑ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and has access to career advancement opportunities. This position reports to the AECOM office in Germantown, MD.
Responsibilities- Provide technical support to dam project managers (design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, regulatory compliance) on a variety of dams.
- Plan, implement, and oversee geotechnical subsurface exploration programs including laboratory testing assistance.
- Perform dam analysis and design: material characterization, seepage, slope stability, settlement and filter compatibility analyses.
- Prepare geotechnical reports, boring logs, drawings, and specifications for dam projects.
- Present technical presentations to internal project team.
- Conduct field observations and site visits for dam safety inspections and construction oversight.
- Progress toward greater responsibility, including task and project management and professional engineer certification.
- Work with multi‑disciplinary teams on Dam Safety Engineering projects.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel for project work part time as needed.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with coursework in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering Exam or ability to complete within 6 months of initial hire.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License and ability to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
- Interest in dams and other hydraulic structures.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Experience with Geo Studio, gINT or other geotechnical engineering software.
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Experience with dams or other hydraulic structures.
- Experience with field subsurface investigations and/or laboratory experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
