A Fire Protection Engineer EIT will perform fire protection engineering services on multi-discipline building design projects of small to large scope for commercial and government facilities, as well as single discipline fire protection engineering projects of small to large scope.

Compensation for this position is $40-45/hour, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. We recognize that applicants may have varying levels of experience. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

Responsibilities
  • Perform fire protection design activities as directed by a Senior Fire Protection Engineer, including conceptual studies, program requirements, design analyses, calculations, systems selection and layout for building design
  • Prepare programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed
  • Coordinate and communicate with design team members to ensure fire protection design details integrate with other disciplines
  • Prepare marketing and presentation materials as directed
  • Support bidding processes, including preparing addenda and amendments and assisting with opening and tabulating bids
  • Support construction phase activities, including field visits, responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directed
  • Comply with quality control policies and procedures
  • Learn and implement department and company standards
  • Develop analysis and design skills
  • Participate in team meetings and coordinate with other team members
  • Work with and take direction from Department Director, Managing Principals, Project Managers, Design Managers, Senior Fire Protection Engineers and senior management
  • Collaborate with a team of architects, engineers, interior designers and landscape architects

Required Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or a post-graduate degree in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination
  • Pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure within 48 months of hire
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles; LEED AP accreditation desirable
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA encouraged
  • Ability to utilize company software for word processing, e-mail, and information management
  • Working familiarity with design and production software for development of project documents
  • Up to 4 years of post-graduation fire protection engineering experience, including code analysis, design calculations, coordination, and construction-phase support
  • Internship experience desirable
  • Prior experience in an Engineering or multi-discipline Architectural & Engineering firm desirable
  • Experience and working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards
Working Conditions

We offer a flexible hybrid work schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed. Most work is desk-based; occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting of minimal weight may be required. The office environment is designed to be comfortable, well-lit, and free from hazards.
