Job Description

AECOM is seeking a SUE Field Supervisor. We offer a comprehensive suite of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), private utility locating, and services to our diverse customer base comprised of Engineering, Environmental, Utility, Surveying, Construction, and Infrastructure.

  • Hybrid position consisting of expected time spent split 80% field, 20% office.
  • Responsible for managing and day‑to‑day operations of multiple field crews.
  • Ensuring field teams adherence to AECOM’s strict guidelines for safety and quality.
  • Responsible for creation and maintenance of field crew schedule for field teams across numerous projects of diverse scope and multiple locations.
  • Ensure adherence to field schedule to complete projects within communicated schedule and budget.
  • Read and interpret utility drawings, as‑builts, GIS files and other forms of utility records data.
  • Initiate, track, process and document utility records requests with various Utility One Call Centers and Utility Owners/Operators.
  • Utilize advanced geophysical equipment (including Ground Penetrating Radar), observational skills, and deductive reasoning to identify, designate and locate (vacuum excavation) all utilities within a requested job scope in accordance with ASCE 38‑02 & 38‑22.
  • Utilize GPS and Total Station survey equipment in combination with Trimble Data Collectors and applications including Trimble Access and Trimble Mobile Manager to survey utility features and line segments.
  • Perform field audits on previously investigated utilities and/or collected field data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform QA/QC of SUE field data performed by AECOM and its subcontractors.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems in the field.
  • Consistently and effectively communicate with field and office staff as well as Managers and Professionals in Charge to relay project information.
  • Act as an advisor/mentor to junior field staff.
  • Occasional interaction with clients, utility representatives, business owners and/or homeowners.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS Degree + 4 years of related experience OR AS Degree + 6 years of related experience OR High School + 8 years of related experience.
  • SUE and/or private utility locating experience equivalent with a demonstrated commitment to quality and attention to detail.
  • Experience and understanding of SUE practices and procedures in accordance with ASCE 38‑02 & 38‑22.
  • Position requires frequent travel to field locations, including overnight travel.
  • Frequent lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Frequent outdoor work in a variety of seasonal weather conditions.
  • Daily walking several miles under variable outdoor conditions such as mud, rock, grass, dirt, heat, cold, dust, and noise.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites. Selection requires a Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Background checks required by client as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with pipe and cable locators such as Radio Detection RD and Vivax Metrotech vLoc Pro to designate all utility types, including EMS Marker Ball detection.
  • Proficiency with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) such as Impulse Radar’s PinpointR GPR System.
  • Advanced understanding of surveying best practices, techniques, and equipment for Virtual Reference Station (VRS), Base Station, and Total Station surveys.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 suite of applications including Office, Excel, Teams, and Word.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS suite of services including Field Maps, Survey 123, and Workforce for documentation, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in the safe operation of hydro/air vacuum excavation trucks and equipment.
  • Detail‑oriented and able to maintain a professional and positive attitude consistent with AECOM’s Core Values.
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Troubleshooting skills and willingness to learn new procedures and technologies.
  • Ability to adhere to AECOM strict standards for safety and quality.
  • OSHA 10/30 Course Completion Certification.
  • First Aid, CPR, and/or AED training certification.
