Job Summary
JMT is seeking a motivated mid‑level professional to join our Ecological Restoration team, focusing on the design of streams, wetlands, and other ecosystem services. This role will primarily support projects throughout the Mid‑Atlantic region, with opportunities to contribute to projects across JMT’s broader geographic footprint. The successful candidate will gain hands‑on experience assessing and designing restoration projects and supporting Project Managers in delivering services for key regional, local, state, and federal clients.
A strong interest in professional growth and collaboration with multidisciplinary technical teams is highly desirable.
- Conduct stream and wetland assessments and support restoration design
- Perform hydrologic modeling using TR-55/TR-20 and the Rational Method
- Perform hydraulic modeling using HEC-RAS
- Collect field data, including stream surveys and sediment sampling
- Evaluate alternatives to support design recommendations
- Review survey reports, mapping, plans, aerial imagery, and topographic/geologic data to support project planning
- Complete design calculations and supporting documentation
- Develop construction cost estimates
- Prepare engineering documents for bid/advertisement and construction
- Coordinate with internal team members to meet schedule and quality expectations
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Compensation for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. - 3-5 years of experience in stream and/or ecological restoration design and mitigation
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, or a related field
- Proficient in Micro Station and/or AutoCAD
- Understanding of Stream Design Principles (Rosgen, Legacy Sediment Removal, Process‑Based, etc.)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Micro Station ORD experience
- ArcGIS Pro experience
- Experience supporting restoration permitting and agency coordination (e.g., USACE/MDE/State/local)
- Engineer-in-Training (EI/EIT) certification or the ability to sit for the exam within 1 year
Work is performed within a general office environment 90% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed. Travel will be required.
