Job Title

As an employee of Maryland Masonic Homes, this position shall be committed to working in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and Guiding Principles of the Maryland Masonic Homes. Provide direct oversight of staff on Healthcare to ensure continuity of care. This position reports to the Director of Nursing or designee.

Candidates must hold an active CPR and First Aid certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or an AHA-approved training provider.

Essential Duties/Major Accountabilities:

• Assists with direct day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants, certified medicine aides, medication techs in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long term care facility

• Cooperates with other resident services to ensure that the resident's total regimen of care is maintained.

• Assesses and ensures that all GNA's are following their respective job descriptions.

• Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, disciplinary tools, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.

• Participates in the development, maintenance and implementation of the facility's Quality Improvement program for the Nursing Department.

• Participates in surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.

• Makes written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of your shift as required to your supervisor.

• Periodically reviews the department's policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc., makes recommendations for revisions to the supervisor.

• Meets with nursing staff as well as support personnel, in planning the shifts services, programs, and activities.

• Admits, transfers, and discharges residents as required, in accordance with policy.

• Fills out and completes accident/incident reports, per policy.

• Completes 24 hour report daily per established procedures.

• Charts all accidents/incidents involving the residents and follows established procedures.

• Educates resident/family to promote compliance to treatment plan.

• Interacts with attending physicians in reviewing treatment plans, records and signs their orders, progress notes, etc., in accordance with established policies.

• Charts nurses' notes in a n informative, complete and descriptive manner that reflects resident status, the care provide to the resident, the resident's response to the care per policy.

• Monitors resident fluid balance per policy.

• Completes required record keeping forms/charts upon the resident's admission, transfer, and/or discharge.

• Records and processes new/changed diet orders per protocol.

• Transcribes physician's orders per facility protocol.

• Reports all discrepancies noted concerning physician's orders, diet change, charting error, etc., to the Supervisor.

• Performs routine charting duties as required and in accordance with established Charting and Documentation Policies and Procedures.

• Signs and dates all entries made in the resident's medical record.

• Prepares and administers medications as ordered by the physician, per policy.

• Completes monthly turnover process per policy and as assigned by supervisor.

• Orders prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary, and in accordance with our established policies.

• Ensures that an adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment are on hand to meet the needs of the residents.

• Completes the narcotic records and necessary documentation as required by regulation and policy.

• Disposes of drugs and narcotics as required, and in accordance with established procedures.

• Reviews medications kardex for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician's order, and adherence to stop order policies.

• Notifies the Supervisor of all drug and narcotic discrepancies noted on your shift.

• Informs the Supervisor of staffing needs when assigned personnel fail to report to work.
