Position
Description:
Under the general supervision of the Sensory Scientist, leads the technician staff of 3 technicians and ensures the successful execution of all types of sensory testing including Descriptive, Discrimination and Consumer panels. In addition to fulfilling the duties of the lab technician as needed, this position is responsible for scheduling panels and resources for support, maintaining and creating Lab SOP’s and best practices, and training lab technicians and contractors.
Lab technician duties include preparing samples, administering tests including setting up panels, and recording detailed and accurate information about tests in a timely manner while following SOP’s. Also responsible for training technician staff on proper food safety, food preparation and sensory protocols. Has latitude in making decisions regarding the relative priority of laboratory activities, approving overtime work, and purchasing raw materials required for process runs.
Additional responsibilities include electronic file maintenance, software trouble shooting, learning new software packages, ordering supplies, and maintaining laboratory cleanliness and organization.
Required Technical
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in a Food Science or related field
- 1+ Years’ experience leading and training teams
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, writing and attention to detail skills
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and work with minimal supervision
- Proficient with PC’s;
Windows-Word, Excel - Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work under tight deadlines, changing priorities and maintain confidentiality of information
- Basic laboratory skills, food preparation skills, and excellent housekeeping skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks
