Job Summary
Responsibility to receive and tracks building permits, inspections and construction activity with accuracy through to project completion. This is a responsible technical office position with extensive public contact. This position reports to the Permitting Administrator.
Essential Job Functions- Verifies contractor licensure and registration.
- Calculates and collects building permit fees.
- Inputs plans review, permitting and inspection information.
- Fields a variety of telephone calls, emails and in-person inquiries at the front counter.
- Acts as the central point of contact for all permits processed by the Department to include status disposition, and location of each.
- Provides inspection information and assists customers with the on-line permit and inspection request system.
- Maintains and stores records into the property files and logs blueprints for the department.
- Performs clerical work for various department personnel.
- Performs other duties as required.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years office experience in in a face-paced customer service and administrative environment required. Knowledge of building permits, contractor licensure, and computer systems preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and related experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Emergency Response Status:
As a condition of employment, City of St. Pete Beach employees may be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• General knowledge of the ordinances, codes and regulations governing the City.
• Knowledge of construction industry terminology.
• General knowledge of accounting principles for fee calculation and cashiering.
• Skill in the use of the City's computer software systems and other equipment utilized in the Community Development Department for permitting, plan review, inspections, and business tax issuance.
• Must be able to receive and transmit accurate messages from in-person conversations, telephone calls and voice mail messages.
• Ability to maintain, organize and retrieve complex records using a variety of source materials.
• Ability to understand and follow complex oral or written instructions
• Ability to perform varied complex technical and clerical operations promptly and accurately.
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion with minimum supervision.
• General knowledge of records management and record retention requirements.
• Must have excellent customer service skills and conduct himself/herself in a courteous and professional manner to maintain effective working relationships with the general public and other employees.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, fingering, grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;
visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
