The work you will do:
- Senior Heavy Equipment Operator / District Five / District Maintenance / Brevard Maintenance
- This position will operate various vehicles and heavy equipment for bridge and roadway maintenance, perform minor equipment maintenance, and assist with repairs and cleaning.
- Lead and coordinate the work of a maintenance crew, including planning tasks, selecting materials, maintaining records, and preparing reports.
- Also perform manual labor, temporary traffic control, basic carpentry, masonry, painting, and helps install highway signs.
- Train crew members in equipment operation and traffic control procedures.

Annual salary range: $ 44,264.58 - $57,283.58
Your specific responsibilities:
- Upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional permit or license; operates vehicles and a variety of large equipment to include, but not limited to, road graders, sewer cleaner and hydraulic excavators in bridge and roadway maintenance.
- Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated including but not limited to: check and add fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc.
- Assists in the repair of operated equipment. Cleans and washes equipment.
- Supervises Department of Corrections inmates crew performing maintenance activities. Oversees crews performing maintenance activities.
- Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the assigned crew. Assists in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
- Maintains records of operation. Prepares and maintains daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle check lists.
- Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments. Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
- Trains crew members in the operation of heavy equipment and of basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Assists with crew activity reports as needed.
