Job Description

Purpose Statement

The job of the Rural School Para educator is done for the purpose/s of assisting a regular classroom teacher in the supervision and instruction of individual and/or small groups of students and providing clerical support to teacher/s and staff.

Essential Functions

* Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. listen to students read, provide writing assistance, reinforce English lessons, providing spelling practice, facilitate activities, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching their academic goals and grade level standards.

* Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.

* Implements under the direction of classroom teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.

* Maintains confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff and parents/guardian for the purpose of preserving the privacy of all individuals/families involved with the District.

* Maintains classroom and lab equipment, work area, student files/records (e.g. adapting instructional materials, cleaning work area, taking attendance, checking completed lessons, grading work, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment and/or providing reliable information.

* Modifies and makes accommodations to classroom work/homework for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce academic objectives.

* Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, lunch room, library, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school rules and procedures and/or providing a safe and positive learning environment.

* Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. copying, decorate classroom, collect/distribute supplies, make displays/bulletin boards/phone calls, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or providing necessary records/materials.

* Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and encouraging student development

* Proctors various assessments (e.g. MAP, grade-level subject, etc.) for the purpose of assisting teachers and troubleshooting to make sure assessments meet expectations.

* Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of student technology outcomes and encouraging student development.

* Teaches students basic/general use of computer, keyboarding, internet safety, and internet searching for the purpose of ensuring competency and educational experiences for all students.

* Troubleshoots programs used in instruction (e.g. Chromebooks, internet down times, inability to log in, etc.) for the purpose of keeping everyone working in the time allotted to learning.

Other Functions

Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.; adhering to safety practices and procedures; administering first aid; operating standard office equipment and office technology;

and using curriculum and instructional techniques.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development and learning styles; strategies for teaching/learning; age appropriate activities/behaviors;

cultural differences of student population; health standards and hazards; keyboarding; methods of instruction and training; office equipment and technology; recordkeeping and record retention practices; and school safety and security practices.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment.
