Infant/Toddler Teacher

The Infant/Toddler Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children aged from birth to 2 years. This position supports the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of infants and toddlers through responsive caregiving, age-appropriate activities, and positive interactions. The teacher maintains a clean and organized classroom, follows licensing regulations and health and safety standards, communicates effectively with families, and works collaboratively with staff to ensure high-quality care and education for all children.

The Infant/Toddler Teacher establishes positive personal relationships with children. The teacher is alert, and responds to children’s differing needs, interests, styles, and abilities through listening, conversations, play, and nurturing. Works in partnership with parents, communicating daily to build mutual understanding and trust to ensure the welfare and optimal development of each child. The Infant/Toddler Teacher will conduct parent/teacher roundings two times annually.

Employs appropriate educational assessment tools, which may include observation and portfolio collection and assessment records for use in parent/teacher conferences and IEP reviews. Prepares individual progress reports and develops new education goals for children.

Provides children with a rich variety of experiences, projects, materials, problems, and ideas to explore and investigate. Organizes the environment and plans teaching strategies. Infant/Toddler teacher will research, develop and publish a monthly/weekly curriculum to incorporate concepts and activities that foster the development of children ages birth through
2. Works in partnership with a team of childcare assistants and the preschool teacher. Will mentor/coach and release childcare assistants in preferred protocols and developmentally appropriate practices and their application in the care, nurturing, and education of infants and toddlers. Maintains professional relationships with Special Education Professionals and the Park County School District #6 kindergarten liaison, to investigate and incorporate strategies into the daily classroom routine to help children meet educational, behavioral, and therapeutic goals, if appropriate.

Facilitates the development of social skills, self-control, and self-regulation in children by using positive guidance techniques. Performs or assists children in routines such as feeding, diapering, bathroom duties, hand washing, and naptime procedures. Communicate regularly with program director. Will keep director abreast of changes in daily enrollment, sick children, changes in a child’s feeding program, daily routines, and developmental milestones, curriculum development, parent’s concerns and feedback, and any questions or concerns regarding infant care and the development of the program in general.

Ensures the health and safety of children by adhering to all state, hospital, and departmental regulations, and fire and sanitation codes. Prepare and serve healthy, nutritious snacks and meals. Will be expected to learn, understand, and apply nutrition guidelines set forth by the Child and Adult Care Food Program, if appropriate. Oversee and participates in maintaining records. Coordinates the development of infant/toddler bulletin boards.

Keeps a neat, orderly, and appealing environment and participates in light housekeeping responsibilities. Increases knowledge base by participating in state, hospital, and department sponsored continuing education. Seeks to increase knowledge base specific to the development and care of infants and toddlers and will take the initiative to pass that information on to childcare assistants. Qualified and able to accept responsibility for acting in the absence of the Director, if so assigned.
