Rural School Para educator Job Description

The job of the Rural School Para educator is done for the purpose of assisting a regular classroom teacher in the supervision and instruction of individual and/or small groups of students and providing clerical support to teacher/s and staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching their academic goals and grade level standards.
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Implements under the direction of classroom teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff and parents/guardian for the purpose of preserving the privacy of all individuals/families involved with the District.
  • Maintains classroom and lab equipment, work area, student files/records for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment and/or providing reliable information.
  • Modifies and makes accommodations to classroom work/homework for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce academic objectives.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of enforcing school rules and procedures and/or providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs record keeping and clerical functions for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or providing necessary records/materials.
  • Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and encouraging student development.
  • Proctors various assessments for the purpose of assisting teachers and troubleshooting to make sure assessments meet expectations.
  • Teaches students basic/general use of computer, keyboarding, internet safety, and internet searching for the purpose of ensuring competency and educational experiences for all students.
  • Troubleshoots programs used in instruction for the purpose of keeping everyone working in the time allotted to learning.

Other Functions:

  • Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Skills are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment.

    working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget.

Work Environment:

  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
  • Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Experience:

Job related experience is desired

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Required Testing:

District Proficiency Test or AA Degree or 60 College Credits

Blood borne Pathogens Training & Testing Diabetes Training & Testing Homeless Training & Testing

Clearances:

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
