POSITION SUMMARY
Mid-level manager position occupied by a journey level Forester knowledgeable in all aspects of Government, State and Federal, timber procurement and contract management. Capable of providing logical and economically realistic analysis of timber procurement while weighing production scheduling, both short and long term, against the economic constraints and viability of area Logging contractors. Must be capable of weighing complex scheduling and economic data to formulate outcome-based decisions which may have undesirable direct impacts upon contractors and their local economies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Divisional manager of Agency (IDL, USFS, BLM) timber sales portfolio tasked with optimizing log deliveries in a timely and efficient manner while balancing contract termination dates, contractor production and mill usage
- Considers all aspects of timber sale purchases weighing purchases against costs, both fixed and variable, while considering the quality and production constraints that will arise from the timber sale purchase
- Coordinates Division Foresters activities and communicates with other IFG Agency Resource Managers to determine cross divisional procurement needs on a as needed basis
- Provides direct oversight and communication for division Foresters on Agency sales and activities:
- Coordinates and manages sale appraisals
- Coordinates pre‑sale cruise needs based on timing and sale assessment
- Maintains fiscal oversight for fixed and variable cost assessment
- Provides harvest scheduling coordination
- Provides intermediary support and consultation to mid and upper‑level Agency managers when significant operational issues arise
- Provides mentoring as needed
- Approves Contractor invoicing and provides IFG timber sale Accounting Admin with the fiscal information to perform necessary timber sale accounting requirements successfully and efficiently
- Contractual signing authorities which may obligate IFG to agreements required for timber procurement and the associated financial and contract obligations thereof
- Coordinates Mill Log Yard function and needs to optimize log flow, woods to yard
- Provides input to IFG Sawmill, Sales, and Fiscal managers as requested or necessary
- Negotiates outside sale/purchase agreements as requested
- Maintains interdisciplinary contact with Agency Representatives as well as Industry groups
- Performs Purchaser Representative/Forester duties on Agency sales when available
- Other duties as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Business or related field
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to apply acquired knowledge regarding situations requiring independent decisions
- Technical knowledge of forest management, timber production, and wood procurement activities
- Ability to work alone on individual projects with little or no supervision
- Familiarity with local and regional resource issues and their impacts
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences
- Valid Driver's License with acceptable MVR history for business travel in company vehicle
Office, Finance, Corporate, Mill Supervisory.
Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs.
