Primary Responsibilities

The Trenchless Geotechnical Team Lead reports to the Trenchless Services Engineering Lead and is responsible for planning, managing, and orchestrating geologic and geotechnical initiatives associated with trenchless technologies, including engineering, design, and construction applications.

  • Lead and execute comprehensive geotechnical investigations for trenchless projects, including field work, overseeing subcontracted drilling crews, collecting data, and generating reports.
  • Generate geotechnical engineering reports and serve as HDR’s local resource in the Area of Operations, representing the Trenchless Services team at client meetings and site visits.
  • Manage geotechnical data using Open Ground and/or gINT, producing deliverables such as boring logs, cross sections, and design drawings.
  • Perform data management, quality control, and geotechnical analysis of subsurface conditions, including hydraulic fracture and inadvertent returns (HFIAs) models.
  • Incorporate geological and geotechnical data into critical design determinations, creating cross sections and design reports as needed.
  • Advance software capabilities in gINT, Open Ground, ArcGIS Pro, and AutoCAD Civil 3D to support trenchless deliverables.
  • Support other HDR business groups and engineering, design, and field services across all regions, monitoring construction activities and maintaining field equipment.
  • Travel as required for site reconnaissance, field logging, and project oversight.
  • Lead and manage workload, delegating responsibilities to other geologists or geotechnical professionals, and conduct mentoring, reviews, and training for direct reports.
  • Plan, forecast resources, estimate costs, schedule, and manage risk for all geological and geotechnical initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Open Ground software.
  • Proven ability to work and communicate in remote environments.
  • Experience leading and managing direct reports and subconsultants.
  • A four‑year degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
  • Team orientation and strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel, gINT, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Travel required.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) and/or Professional Geologist (PG) credentials.
  • Knowledge of ASTM Standards for geotechnical concepts and subsurface material classifications.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional registration, license, or certification may be required.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Good leadership and organizational skills.

Benefits and Compensation

The position offers a competitive salary range of $120,182 – $172,810, dependent on experience, education, and geographic location.
