The Roads and Highways Practice is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to join our Inland Northwest team in one of the following locations:
Boise, ;
Coeur d'Alene, ;
Pocatello, ;
Spokane, WA; or Tri-Cities, WA.
In this role, you will contribute to and lead roadway design tasks on multidisciplinary transportation projects throughout Idaho and Eastern Washington. You will apply your technical knowledge and engineering judgment to advance projects from conceptual design through final plans, specifications, and estimates. Projects may include freeways, highways, local roadways, intersection and street improvements, utility coordination, and related transportation infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is a proactive and collaborative engineer with strong roadway design experience and the ability to take ownership of technical assignments. You should be comfortable developing horizontal and vertical alignments, grading and earthwork designs, ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities, utility relocation plans, quantities, specifications, and engineers’ estimates. You will work closely with project managers, clients, and professionals from other engineering disciplines while helping guide and mentor junior staff.
Experience with construction observation, general civil design, traffic signals, or illumination is beneficial and may provide opportunities to expand your technical capabilities.
What You’ll DoKey Responsibilities:
- Lead roadway design tasks from conceptual development through final design and construction documents.
- Develop horizontal and vertical alignments, roadway profiles, typical sections, grading plans, intersection layouts, ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities, and related design elements.
- Prepare and review preliminary and final plans using Open Roads Designer and/or Civil 3D.
- Perform engineering calculations and analyze survey data, maps, reports, record drawings, and other technical information.
- Prepare and revise technical reports, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, design documentation, and supporting project materials.
- Coordinate roadway design with structures, drainage and hydraulics, traffic, utilities, environmental, survey, and other disciplines.
- Serve as a roadway task lead, coordinating assignments, monitoring progress, and supporting delivery of work within established scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Delegate work to junior staff, provide technical guidance, and review work products for quality and completeness.
- Communicate project‑specific technical information to project managers, clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders.
- Support the development, tracking, and updating of project schedules.
- Participate in client and agency meetings, stakeholder coordination, public open houses, and other community‑engagement activities.
