We’re seeking someone who is professional, detail-oriented, and able to remain calm and respectful in difficult or contentious situations.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Knowledge of building codes, zoning, and site disturbance regulations
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
- The ability to exercise tact, discretion, and independent judgment
- Comfort working both in the field and in an office setting
- High School Diploma or GED plus at least two years of relevant industry experience or training
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field with two years of experience applying adopted codes and standards
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain a Code Enforcement Officer Certificate within a reasonable timeframe
- Must pass a pre-employment and random drug screening and background check
As a Code Compliance Officer I, you’ll support the County’s code enforcement program by investigating complaints, conducting inspections, and helping bring properties into compliance with County ordinances and adopted building codes.
- Investigating zoning, land use, site disturbance, and building code concerns
- Conducting property inspections and field investigations
- Responding to citizen complaints and working with property owners toward compliance
- Issuing notices, warnings, and corrective actions as needed
- Preparing reports, documentation, photographs, and case files
- Coordinating with other County departments and outside agencies
- Assisting with legal actions, including preparing evidence and testifying in court when required
- Maintaining accurate records and clear communication throughout each case
- You also attend meetings, stay current on best practices in code enforcement, and serve as a knowledgeable resource to the public and County staff.
