We’re seeking someone who is professional, detail‑oriented, and able to remain calm and respectful in difficult or contentious situations.
Ideal Candidates Will Have:
- Knowledge of building codes, zoning, and site disturbance regulations.
- Strong communication, organization, and time‑management skills.
- The ability to exercise tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
- Comfort working both in the field and in an office setting.
- High School Diploma or GED plus at least two years of relevant industry experience or training.
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field with two years of experience applying adopted codes and standards to construction or site development. - Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain a Code Enforcement Officer Certificate within a reasonable timeframe.
- Must pass a pre‑employment and random drug screening and background check.
As a Code Compliance Officer I, you’ll support the County’s code enforcement program by investigating complaints, conducting inspections, and helping bring properties into compliance with County ordinances and adopted building codes.
- Investigate zoning, land use, building, site disturbance, erosion control, and stormwater compliance issues.
- Respond to citizen complaints and referrals from County departments and partner agencies.
- Conduct site inspections and field investigations.
- Educate property owners and work toward voluntary compliance whenever possible.
- Prepare and issue enforcement notices and documentation.
- Maintain accurate, defensible case files that may support administrative or legal proceedings.
- Coordinate with contractors, property owners, County staff, and outside agencies.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and evidence for hearings or court as needed.
- Represent the County professionally in the field, at meetings, and in hearings.
