Data Analyst
Position Summary
The Cogito Business Analyst (CBA) leads the development of advanced analytics solutions that support clinical, operational, and financial decision‑making. This role requires strong proficiency in Epic reporting tools and Power BI, along with the ability to manage complex projects and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. By translating business needs into scalable data products and coordinating efforts between IT, clinical, and administrative stakeholders, the position ensures delivery of high‑impact insights that drive organizational performance and strategic outcomes.
Responsibilities- Design and develop interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI, Epic tools (Reporting Workbench, Slicer Dicer, Radar), and other BI platforms.
- Work with subject matter experts and project application teams to identify the needs of report consumers; prioritize and implement new reports and change requests.
- Translate complex business requirements into scalable data models and visualizations.
- Use the Reporting Workbench extract framework to build and deliver in‑scope extracts.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and Analytics Engineers to design specifications for highly technical report requests and extracts.
- Maintain and enhance Epic Cogito (Slicer Dicer) data models and metadata in alignment with governance standards.
- Integrate data from Epic and non‑Epic sources (SQL Server, HRIS, Midas, etc.) to support enterprise‑wide analytics.
- Assist the principal trainer, if staffed at Kootenai, with developing training curriculum and training power reporting users; provide additional end‑user training as needed.
- Participate in system upgrades, testing, and optimization of reporting environments.
- Maintain data integrity and security for assigned applications and systems.
- Develop communication related to education efforts for deployments, upgrades, optimizations, and other reporting changes as assigned.
- Partner with quality, operational, and business leaders on report design and optimization to meet quality, safety, financial, and efficiency needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
- Ensure regular and predictable attendance as an essential job function.
- Be competent to meet age‑specific needs of the unit assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent education/experience required.
- Minimum 3 years of analytics experience required.
- Epic certification or accreditation in one or more Epic modules as assigned required.
- Certification to be initiated as directed and completed within 3 months upon completion of Epic training; the employee must remain current in certification or proficiency.
- Epic certification and accreditation in Data Courier Badge, Caboodle Data Model, Cogito Project Manager, Quality Badges, and Cogito Tools Admin preferred.
- Other required system application training/certifications to complete assigned work as necessary.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital and/or clinic setting preferred.
- Participate in after‑hours on‑call, on‑call rotation, and service recovery efforts as required.
- Comprehensive understanding of clinical or business principles to evaluate information system and healthcare regulatory needs.
- Knowledge of Healthcare information systems.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 10 lbs.
- Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height.
- Must be able to maintain a sitting position.
