Process Engineer III

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Process Engineering Supervisor, support the Operations Superintendent in monitoring product specifications. Lead small capital project design and development to increase refinery productivity and efficiency. Provide assistance to Project Engineering and outside consultants in monitoring efficiency and expansion. Support Operations in unit monitoring and optimization to achieve refinery goals. Collaborate with Process Safety Management to support process safety and regulatory compliance.

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering required;
  Chemical Engineering preferred.

• 4+ years of relevant work experience.
• College engineering internship preferred; oil and refinery internship highly desirable.
• Demonstrated knowledge of economic principles, project management, and customer service.
• Proficiency with MS Office software packages, including Excel.
• Desire to work in a manufacturing environment and address mechanical issues.
• Familiarity with process modeling software preferred.
• Fluent in English, oral and written.
• Competencies in priority setting and organizational agility.
• Competencies in developing peer relations, participating as a team member, and leading others.
• Ability to analyze, reason, and solve increasingly complex problems.
• Ability to adjust to frequent change and adjust schedule as needed to reach departmental goals.

• Provide technical support for plant operations.
• Assigned to a specific unit(s) within the refinery for daily monitoring, troubleshooting, optimization, and capital project design and development.
• Work with operators and engineers to maintain and troubleshoot problems and propose applications for process units.
• Collaborate with drafting and other engineers on small project scopes to determine appropriate design and sizing of equipment.
• Support process catalysts and chemicals bidding, and contact vendors for information.
• Assist in planning unit shutdowns, startups, and administer plant performance test runs as needed.
• Track performance data using spreadsheets and provide information to vendors.
• Provide information to Project Engineering for expansion purposes; collect lab or operation data.
• Work with computer personnel (TDC/APC control system) to improve monitoring.
• Research and monitor upcoming technology changes to improve future strategies.
• Provide after-hours and turnaround (12‑hour shift) support as needed.
• Consistently keep supervisor advised of progress via oral and written reports.
• Participate in incident investigations as a lead or team member.
• Support PSM functions such as Management of Change (MOCs) and Process Hazardous Analysis for assigned units.

• Assist with increasing refinery productivity and efficiency.
• Aid in optimizing process, design, and development of projects.
• Align performance with safety, environmental compliance, reliability, and operating excellence.
• Ensure product specifications are met.
• Reduce downtime, ensure proper bidding, and thorough planning.
• Develop competence and trust so others seek guidance.
