Job DescriptionHead Start is a federally‑funded, national child and family development program which provides comprehensive services for pregnant women, children from birth to age five, and their families. Services for children promote school readiness, and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement, and include parent leadership and social service supports.
As a Head Start Preschool Teacher, you will serve as lead or co‑teacher in an outcomes‑oriented, team environment, providing safe, healthy, friendly, and developmentally appropriate environments and experiences for children ages 3–5. Motivated Head Start teachers improve the trajectory of children’s lives, including learning outcomes, living standards, and later academic and professional success.
Hiring for two positions starting on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
Work Hours & Pay40 hours per week, approximately 42 weeks per year (summer layoff).
Pay during the first 60‑day probationary period: $28.08 per hour; post‑probationary rate: $28.76 per hour.
Position type: Full‑time
Salary range: $28 to $28 per hour
Job Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field.
- Current Vermont Agency of Education teaching license with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education (and preferred endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education).
- Knowledge and experience in developmentally appropriate early childhood practice, child outcome assessment, child behavior management, curriculum planning, development, and implementation.
- Commitment to social justice and ability to work with families with limited financial resources.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (bilingual abilities a plus).
- Documentation and record‑keeping skills.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation.
- Physical ability to carry out required tasks.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
