We currently have opportunities to join the Nursing Bank within Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust as a RN
. In particular we are looking for bank staff to work as and when required, often at short notice, at Band 5 level in Colchester, North Essex
. If you have previous experience working with Service Users within a learning‑disability background, we would like to hear from you. Please apply if you live within easy commuting distance to Colchester.
All roles with the bank are ad hoc (as and when) and therefore may suit those already working part‑time, with other commitments, or who want to work on a short‑term basis. We can support bank staff in migrating into a permanent role where vacancies exist. HPFT provides support for service users with mental health, learning disability, and children’s and adolescent mental health problems.
Applicants should have some experience of working in a healthcare setting, particularly within learning disability services.
All applicants need to hold a valid NMC Statement of Entry and should have completed preceptorship and be able to evidence this.
Main duties of the jobIn line with the philosophy of the clinical area, you will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the service user, in conjunction with other staff.
You will work in close collaboration with other professionals, including the wider Multi‑Disciplinary Team (Nursing, Psychiatry, Psychology, Allied Health Professionals and Arts Therapies), in assessing service users’ needs, devising care plans and evaluating outcomes that promote service user empowerment through the process.
The post holder will act as a positive role model and contribute to the professional development of junior staff, consistently demonstrating Trust values.

Job responsibilitiesThe post holder will:
- Work as a registered nurse with a special interest in Learning Disability, Autism and mental health wellbeing for people with learning disabilities.
- Have a key role in ensuring the smooth running and coordination of the shift.
- Be responsible for maintaining clinical standards under the direction of the charge nurses and team leader.
- Work in liaison with service users, carers and other professionals, and co‑operatively with other services, ensuring the delivery of a needs‑led service.
- Work as part of the Trust shift rota across a 24‑hour shift pattern.
- Carry out and advocate professional‑specific interventions.

Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / TRAINING- Relevant Professional Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Demonstrable commitment to ongoing training and development.
- Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care according to assessed need using person‑centred approaches.
- Experience of working with people with learning disabilities or complex health needs.
- Experience of using assessment and screening tools to support analysis and make formulations and recommendations based on this.
- Competent IT skills and an ability to adapt to various systems.
- Car driver and have access to their own car.
- Able to work long days and night shifts.
