Hybrid- IBM i / AS400 (iSeries) Support Engineer
- Colchester, VT
6 month assignment
- May 2026 - October 2026. 40 hours per week. This is a Hybrid role. Candidates need to live within commuting distance of Colchester, VT to travel onsite when needed.
We are seeking an experienced IBM i / AS400 (iSeries) Support Engineer to provide ongoing support and maintenance for critical legacy systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of IBM i environments, supporting business‑critical applications, and troubleshooting system issues in a production environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide day‑to‑day support and administration of IBM i (AS400) systems
- Monitor system performance and perform tuning, capacity planning, and optimization
- Execute system maintenance, including PTFs, upgrades, and patch management
- Manage backup and recovery processes, ensuring data integrity and availability
- Troubleshoot and resolve system, job, and application issues
- Administer user profiles, security settings, and access controls
- Support batch processing, job scheduling, and job queue management
- Collaborate with application teams to support deployments and changes
- Maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures
- Ensure compliance with security policies and audit requirements
- 5+ years of experience supporting IBM i / AS400 environments
- Strong knowledge of IBM i OS (OS/400), CL commands, and job control
- Experience with system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with backup/recovery solutions (e.g., BRMS)
- Understanding of security administration and user management
- Using tools like GIAPA, iDoctor, Job Watcher, etc on their various iSeries systems
- Experience with Power Systems hardware
- Knowledge of DB2 for i and basic database administration
- Experience with high availability / disaster recovery solutions (e.g., MIMIX, PowerHA)
- Exposure to integration with modern platforms (Windows, Linux, APIs)
- Strong problem‑solver with a hands‑on operational mindset
- Comfortable supporting mission‑critical legacy systems
- Able to work independently and collaborate across cross‑functional teams
