Description

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in compliance with, but not limited to, Standards of Practice as defined by, AORN, ASPAN, SGNA and State Practice Act Standards, and organization protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises plan of care based on physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient/caregiver. Maintains clinical knowledge and skills competencies to facilitate patient care in accordance with current standards of practice and monitors the environment to provide safe patient care.

Pre-Op

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients prior to surgery
  • Documents patient-care records and other forms accurately, following policies and procedures in a timely manner
  • Informs patient about routine care and procedures related to the preoperative experience
  • Ensure patient readiness for procedure including, but not limited to, NPO status, medication administration, surgical site verification and marking and chart completeness
  • Performs all preoperative testing (i.e. labwork, glucose, pregnancy testing, Electrocardiogram, etc.) as needed
  • Reports all abnormal values to anesthesiologist/physician appropriately
  • Initiates IV access
Recovery Responsibilities
  • Assess patients’ post-operative condition
  • Monitor vital signs
  • Documents post anesthesia care and performs thorough postoperative patient assessments prior to discharge of the patient
  • Informs patient and family about appropriate care and procedure to follow upon returning home
  • Answer patient questions and ensure they are kept comfortable
  • Monitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the physician

Requirements
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing
  • RN with active license in appropriate state
  • General clinical competency in acute patient care
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire
