RequirementsQualification requirements which the Para Professional must possess:
- Education and/or certification:
- high school graduate
- one or more Michigan or National Auto Mechanics Certifications
- Experience:
two years in appropriate industry and/or recognized training program from a secondary or post-secondary institution
- Mental Tasks:
- Ability to understand written and oral instructions.
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate verbal/written communication in the supervision and teaching of students.
- Ability to learn new technology as it relates to automotive/diesel technology.
- Ability to extrapolate information from automotive/diesel repair manuals and computer programs, and explain it to students.
- Ability to take direction from the professional.
- Ability to successfully do presentations to students.
- Physical Tasks:
- Ability to drive a vehicle, and load/unload vehicles in need of repair.
- Ability to drive and operate a forklift.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, and kneel in performing automotive/diesel repair work.
- Ability to lift and move objects of at least 50 lbs. (i.e., tires, batteries, tools, etc.).
- Ability to assist students with automotive/diesel related skills.
- Equipment:
- Ability to utilize office and classroom equipment such as telephones, computers, printers, copiers, VCR’s, calculators, and other basic classroom and school equipment.
Ability to utilize automotive/diesel related equipment such as diagnostic scopes, hoists, welders, auto/diesel repair tools, etc.
Policy Requirements- Adhere to applicable Master Agreement, district and/or building policies and procedures including the staff handbook, but not limited to:
- attendance

- safety (tornado, fire, lock-down, abuse/neglect procedures, etc.)
- personal appearance
- emergency, accident or illness
- Attend all required meetings and in-service programs on time.
- Follow administrative directives, verbal and/or written.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- No extensions on allotted breaks or lunch times.
- Remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
- Demonstrate acceptable ethical standards of the position.
- Communication and interpersonal relationship skills expected:
- Communicate clearly and accurately when writing/speaking.
- Communicate student concerns to appropriate:
- supervisor
- other school personnel
- Management and organization skills expected:
- Complete assignments and paperwork accurately, on time, and without constant supervision.
- Assist other personnel as needed.
- Application of job knowledge expected:
- Demonstrate logical problem solving skills.
- Demonstrate skill in assisting students to meet objectives and in utilizing educational equipment, materials, and resources.
- Provide positive reinforcement to students.
- Assist in the maintenance of an environment that is conducive to student learning.
- Meet specific performance objectives developed jointly with immediate supervisor.
- Prepare equipment, material, and supplies for student learning.
- Assist Program Manager with attendance.
- Assist Program Manager with demonstrations in the classroom and in laboratory.
- Assist or direct housekeeping assignments for students.
- Assist Program Manager with student discipline.
- Enforce safety rules and regulations.
- Help maintain Inventory of supplies.
- Assist Program Manager with grading and student progress.
- Assist Program Manager with upgrading curriculum and scheduling work.
- Assist Program Manager with maintaining equipment.
- Assist Program Manager in processing work orders and dealing with customers.
- Assist with the implementation of students’ individualized education and health care plans.
- Fabrication of training materials.
Other duties as assigned.
