Maintenance Technician II

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician II to support high mix sheet metal fabrication and CNC machining plant operating across 3 shifts. This is a hands-on role responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of manufacturing equipment including laser cutting systems, press brakes, robotic welders and a number of CNC mills and lathes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance on CNC machines (lathes, mills, laser, press brakes) according to schedule to maximize uptime and equipment life.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and PLC-related faults, and execute repairs with minimal production downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and repair CNC control systems (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, etc.), servo motors, drives, spindles, ball screws, linear guides, and tool changers.
  • Maintain and repair sheet metal fabrication equipment including laser cutting machines, press brakes and welding systems.
  • Conduct and instruct more junior employees on daily, weekly, and monthly inspections; lubricate, adjust, clean, and replace worn components (bearings, belts, filters, seals, pumps, valves, etc.).
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams, mechanical drawings, and OEM technical manuals.
  • Install, level, align, and commission new or relocated CNC and fabrication machinery.
  • Maintain coolant systems, chip conveyors, mist collectors, hydraulic power units, and air compressor/dryer systems.
  • Execute lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and always ensure compliance with company safety standards.
  • Establish and maintain accurate records in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) – work orders, parts used, labor hours, and failure analysis.
  • Manage spare parts inventory: identify critical spares, reorder when low, and organize storage.
  • Assist with root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring failures.
  • Train and mentor Maintenance Technician I personnel and machine operators on basic troubleshooting and proper machine care.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and shop efficiency.
  • Be available for on-call rotation, overtime, and shift work (including nights and weekends) as required to support 24/7 or high-volume production schedules
  • Other duties as needed.

Specific Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

Required:

  • Proficient in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing faults in CNC machinery and related equipment, covering mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols, regulatory compliance (e.g., lockout/tagout procedures), and environmental standards in industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, including scheduling, inspections, and system improvements.
  • Basic principles of electronics, including reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals for troubleshooting manufacturing machinery.
  • Awareness of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for tracking repairs, inventory, and work orders in a facility handling sheet metal and CNC operations.
  • Hands-on experience with installation, calibration, and setup of new production machines, including those used in sheet metal fabrication and CNC machining.
  • Skilled in using diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, vibration analyzers), hand/power tools, and performing replacements of parts like belts, bearings, motors, and seals.
  • Effective communication and collaboration, including documenting maintenance activities, mentoring juniors, and working with teams to address complex issues.
