UMIACS is a research unit of the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park. This internal search seeks a Director to lead the institute, which focuses on computational science across national defense, precision medicine, big data, cybersecurity, language and culture, and other areas.

- Lead the institute in achieving its vision for growth and development, elevating it to the next level of excellence
- Serve as the chief representative, advocate for the institute, and practice effective shared governance through regular consultation with internal and external stakeholders
- Enhance the institute’s national research profile and strengthen partnerships with national laboratories, institutes, government agencies, and private industry
- Cultivate excellence in outstanding research, teaching, and service among institute faculty
- Recruit outstanding new faculty and staff members, and make recommendations with respect to tenure and promotions to ensure equality of opportunity
- Advance excellence and broaden participation for those who want careers in computing and technology
- Engage with and attain support from alumni, friends, corporate partners, and others for the institute
- Plan and administer the institute’s budget in collaboration with the Dean and faculty
- Ph.D. in computer science or a related field
- Tenured full professor at the University of Maryland, College Park (or tenured associate professor expected to become a full professor by July1,2026)
- Outstanding record in research and education, along with administrative skills and vision to lead the unit

Physical DemandsThe successful candidate will work in a regular office environment and attend meetings in person on the university campus.
