We are looking for a Senior Engineer for Advanced Nanoscale Fabrication Processes who is a key technical for both hands-on process development as well driving external partners. The mission of this role is to develop and validate processes to manufacture elements of the ion traps which IonQ uses on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
In this role, you will be the crucial interfaces between process design, layout, fabrication, packaging, architecture, and test, with particular emphasis on the collaboration with our external fab partners and coordinating the use of external clean room facilities. Your expertise will directly impact the delivery and performance of fundamental building blocks of our quantum computers.
- Process Development & Optimization:
Design, refine, drive improvements, and scale nanofabrication processes to ensure reproducibility, yield, and optimal performance, also when outsourced. - Project Leadership:
Drive innovation and lead cross-functional teams from concept through to functional hardware, ensuring alignment on project goals and timelines. - Collaboration & Mentorship:
Work alongside multidisciplinary teams, encompassing physicists, scientists, and engineers, while providing training on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and tool usage to junior engineers. - Documentation & Quality:
Create and maintain detailed SOPs, ensuring robust process control and adherence to high standards of quality and safety throughout all fabrication activities. - Technical Consultation:
Offer design-for-fabrication guidance and serve as the key technical expert on specific processes or equipment, facilitating effective communication between teams.
- Core Skills & Environment:
- Hands-on experience in a nanofab environment (Class 100/1000).
- Proficiency in technologies such as Photolithography, PVD, Metrology, etching, dielectric processes, quantum technology, photonics, blade dicing, and generic metrology techniques including SEM/FIB, optical and physical profilometry, AFM.
- Knowledge of chemical processes involving solvents, bases, and acids.

This role is based onsite at our headquarters in College Park, MD. Travel up to 10%.
