Transportation Research Scientist/Engineer

Job Description

Position Overview

Intelligent Automation, Inc. (IAI) is seeking a highly motivated Transportation Research Scientist/Engineer at all levels in multiscale traffic simulations (macro/meso/micro), traffic management and signal control, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) research and development. Areas of focus include large traffic network management, traffic flow theory, traffic signal operation/control, DSRC/cellular based V2I, V2V applications, and Connected/Automated Vehicles. Experience with multi-modal transportation system management/modeling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence is a plus.

Job Duties
  • Conduct innovative research and development in traffic control/operation, ITS, and transportation network
  • Conduct traffic simulations to support applications of AI/machine learning algorithms for improved traffic management and operations
  • Test and improve transportation system hardware and software
  • Write research proposals and technical reports
Required Skills
  • Proficient in traffic control algorithm development
  • Proficient in traffic simulation and signal timing software such as VISSIM, CORSIM, Aimsun, and Synchro; VISSIM proficiency is particularly desired.
  • Proficient in hardware/software in the loop simulation, traffic signal control, and interface standards (NEMA, 2070, NTCIP, etc.), high-resolution signal controller data analysis
  • 3+ years of experience in traffic simulations, traffic data analysis, traffic incident management, traffic signal control, and DSRC/cellular based CAV applications
Desired Skills
  • Wide-area traffic network modeling/management
  • Basic knowledge of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (e.g. expert system, neural network, etc.)
  • High-resolution signal controller data analysis, signal performance measurement, traffic safety study, traffic flow prediction/demand forecast
  • JAVA, C, VB, Database and Linux programming skillsDSRC protocols, CAV
  • Proposal writing experience
EDUCATION

Ph.D. or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (CE), Transportation Engineering (TE), Electrical Engineering (EE)/Computer Science (CS), or related field.
