Description
WSP is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support due diligence, site investigation, remediation, and environmental compliance projects in any of our Baltimore, MD, Herndon, VA or Washington, DC offices.
This OpportunityIn this role, you will assist with planning and implementation of environmental investigations, remedial activities, waste management, inspections, compliance support, and monitoring programs. Responsibilities include preparing field documentation, technical reports, and data summaries; evaluating site conditions; supporting risk assessments. You will perform work in accordance with regulations, project requirements, and industry standards while maintaining WSP’s commitment to quality, safety, and technical excellence.
YourImpact
- Collect, identify, and compile environmental data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.
- Perform professional environmental engineering work and assist with investigations of vapor intrusion, hazardous or solid waste management, petroleum tank inspections, and closures in compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
- Verify site characteristics and support technical evaluation on environmental issues.
- Prepare data visualizations, charts, reports, and illustrations for interpretation and presentation.
- Maintain quality control standards for accurate measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Assist with development and scoping of site investigation and remediation projects.
- Contribute to technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to prevent, control, restore, or clean up environmental problems.
- Conduct environmental studies and surveys to gather information and plan for future needs.
- Analyze, evaluate, and interpret environmental data to develop action plans for low to mid‑level risk mitigation.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams executing projects.
- Assist with preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Civil, Sanitary, Chemical, Industrial, Agricultural, or Public Health Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post‑education experience in environmental engineering.
- Engineer in Training certification and ongoing technical development toward a Professional Engineer certification.
- Knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and methods applied to environmental and project work‑related issues.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
- Knowledge of reducing and eliminating hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs.
- Knowledge of techniques for identifying, measuring, sampling, and studying environmental media.
- Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- Effective self‑leadership, attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to reach conclusions from testing, data analysis, and logical solutions.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project requirements, possibly beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $95,000 – $125,000. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
