Job Overview

This position is available within the University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology (DIT). The role of the Project Manager within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) is to plan, execute, and finalize projects according to deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.

The Project Manager will also assist in defining the project's objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.

Primary Responsibilities

This position will have primary responsibility for managing the University’s recurring Classroom Technology Upgrades initiative, coordinating planning and implementation across DIT, campus partners, vendors, and contractors. This role will support project planning, scheduling, stakeholder communication, issue and risk tracking, vendor coordination, equipment tracking, receipt and inventory management, and the successful delivery of classroom technology upgrades in coordination with campus partners.

As a member of the Project Management Office, the Project Manager may also manage other projects and contribute to PMO initiatives based on organizational priorities and capacity. In addition to managing internal and/or external projects, the Project Manager will support the continuous improvement cycle of the PMO. Activities may include identifying opportunities and facilitating improvements, creating or updating PMO assets, overseeing and/or supporting PMO service delivery, facilitating training of other DIT staff or students, attendance and facilitation of Community of Practice sessions, and/or other improvement or support efforts led by the PMO.

Work Conditions

** This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.**

** May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, or different shifts for extended periods.**

Physical Demands

Sedentary work. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal or extensive reading.

Work is performed in an office environment, on campus, and in the field. Required ability to work on-site, including in a construction site environment and have the ability to work in adverse conditions created as a result of construction. Required ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment. Work requires operating a state vehicle to travel within Baltimore/Washington.

Licenses/ Certifications

Valid driver’s license

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

Five (5) years of professional information technology project management experience.

Other:
Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
