The Quantum Collaborative Research Corps (QCoR) at the University of Maryland – College Park is seeking an Associate Director to provide technical and scientific leadership across QCoR’s experimental and theoretical quantum research programs.
QCoR is an interdisciplinary research organization based at UMD and embedded within the LPS Qubit Collaboratory (LQC) ecosystem. On the UMD side, QCoR operates as an integrated research corps supporting federally-funded quantum programs, with a strong emphasis on superconducting and spin qubit platforms, advanced materials, nanofabrication, and quantum systems engineering.
This role is ideal for a senior scientist or engineer who is ready to oversee technical direction
, lead interdisciplinary research teams, and help execute large-scale, mission-oriented quantum research efforts.
- Oversee the technical direction of QCoR’s experimental and theoretical research activities;
- provide scientific leadership across superconducting qubit and spin qubit research thrusts;
- lead and mentor postdoctoral researchers, research scientists, graduate students, and staff;
- integrate experimental, theoretical, materials, and device-focused efforts;
- support mission-driven research execution, including milestones and technical reporting;
- engage with collaborators, institutional leadership, and government partners.
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field;
- proven record of technical leadership in quantum science or engineering;
- deep expertise in quantum information science, specifically superconducting and/or spin qubits;
- experience guiding experimental and/or theoretical research programs;
- demonstrated ability to lead teams in highly interdisciplinary, mission-driven environments.
- This position involves federally funded research subject to U.S. government access and security requirements. Employment eligibility is limited to individuals who can meet these requirements.
- Experience managing multi-investigator or multi-project research efforts;
- familiarity with federally funded research or mission-oriented R&D organizations;
- experience interacting with government sponsors or program managers;
- project or program management experience.
