Overview
This position is a postdoctoral scientist role focused on advancing research and modeling of energy, critical minerals & materials (CMM), and supply chain systems for the Global Change Intersectoral Modeling System (GCIMS) at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
Responsibilities- Lead analysis using Global Change Analysis Model (GCAM) to generate simulations that quantify the impacts of uncertain technologies, resources, and other factors on integrated energy, CMM, and economic systems.
- Develop model, data, and scenario inputs to produce GCAM simulations for the GCIMS.
- Apply artificial intelligence and machine learning tools where appropriate to advance the analysis.
- Lead multiple peer‑reviewed publications on the work.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary PNNL team members and external partners across national labs and universities.
- Contribute to the development of new GCAM capabilities and tools, and support the creation of AI solutions aligned with DOE’s Genesis Mission.
- PhD received within the past 60 months (5 years) or within the next 8 months of the Final date to receive applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proven record of publishing in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Graduate‑level statistical training and substantial programming experience.
- Proficiency with R, Python, and/or C++.
- Ph.D. in engineering, economics, public policy, data science, physical sciences, applied mathematics, computational science, or a related discipline.
- Experience with and enthusiasm for applying evolving AI methodologies to research, modeling, and analysis.
