Life Skills Teacher

Applications are being accepted by the College Place School District for a Life Skills Teacher assigned to Davis Elementary School starting in the  school year. This assignment is being posted for internal and external consideration at this time. Interested internal candidates will need to apply online by 4:00pm Tuesday, April 28, 2026 to be considered prior to external candidate applicants. The position is open until filled.

Job Purpose:

Supporting The CP Way by planning, implementing, and evaluating classroom instructional activities to create exceptional outcomes for College Place High School students and staff.

Position & Benefits:

Position: 8 hours per day, 187 days per school year (10 months)

Salary: $57,482 - $111,588 (educational incentive available in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated)

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate appropriate for grade level and area;
  • Special education endorsement or requisite training to teach special education;
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Successful experience delivering instruction in a life skills classroom, including students with moderate to severe disabilities.
  • Interest in and experience with extra-curricular and co-curricular coaching and/or advising assignments.
  • Bilingual and Biliterate in Spanish preferred
  • Experience working with a wide range of students with special needs, including students with autism, emotional-behavioral disorders, learning disabilities, communication issues, etc.

The Successful Candidate Shall:

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate classroom instructional activities consistent with building and adopted district curriculum and State Standards.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of techniques and materials, which may be used in teaching students in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Directors and other appropriate learning activities including participation in the development of interim and positive behavior plans and the evaluation and revision of behavior plans.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans for special education students, which may include functional behavioral assessments and positive behavior intervention plans.
  • Design and implement individual programs for students with mild to significant disabilities.
  • Utilize individual and small group instruction with a level system to address behavior concerns.
  • Exhibit strong skills and background in instructional methods and strategies.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve an environment conductive to learning.
  • Diagnose and prescribe learning and training programs for individual pupils based on student aptitude and interest.
  • Evaluate student's academic and social growth, using a variety of authentic assessment techniques, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Coordinate and supervise programming for adult students with special needs, ages 18-21, including forging and extending community connections, relationships and opportunities
  • Be well versed in special education laws and current special education trends.
  • Implement various levels of behavior management ranging from verbal prompts to physical restraint as needed.
  • Ability to use computers for instruction and assessment.
  • Ability to collect, graph and effectively utilize data on IEP objectives and goals.
  • Ability to relay humor and positive regard to students and colleagues.
  • Ability to utilize and evaluate interpretive feedback.
  • Possess a positive attitude about change and an eagerness to implement changes that will enhance student learning.
  • An unequivocal passion for serving students with special needs.
  • Demonstrated advocacy for special education students and their families.
