Applications are being accepted by the College Place School District for a Para educator assigned to the Life Skills/EBD program at Davis Elementary.

The Inclusion Support Para educator provides support across a variety of special education settings with a primary focus on promoting student access, participation, independence, and inclusion. This position may support students within the general education setting to help them successfully participate alongside their peers, as well as provide small-group or individualized instruction and support within special education settings.

The para educator may work one-on-one with individual students or with small groups based on student needs. Responsibilities may include supporting academic instruction, social-emotional and behavioral skills, communication, independence, and the generalization of skills across school environments. The position will collaborate with special education and general education staff to help students access their educational program and participate as fully and independently as possible in the school community.

Position: 7 hours per day, 190 days per school year (10 months)

Salary: $20.69 - $27.14 per hour (educational incentive available in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 18 years of age; and
• High school diploma or equivalent; and
• Meet the Washington State Para educator Minimum Employment requirements by showing evidence of one of the following:
  • Associate degree; or
  • At least 72 quarter or 48 semester credits of 100 level courses or higher; or
  • Pass the ETS Para-Pro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher.
  • Pass the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment with a minimum qualifying score of 220, or
  • Pass the Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program with a minimum passing score of 65% on each of the two required assessments.

• Background check through Washington State Patrol, as required by RCW 43.43.830.; and
• Completion of Safe Schools Web-Based Training at hire and annually thereafter
• Effective oral and written communication in the English language, including correct grammar and spelling usage;
• Ability to learn and apply new skills

• Ability to show flexibility and good judgment
• Ability to interact positively and confidentially with individuals from diverse linguistic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
• Ability to successfully implement educational programs and manage student behavior with direction from certificated staff
• Ability to maintain composure in high stress situations where students may exhibit aggression, non-compliance, and other conduct problems.
• Willingness to complete training on restraint and/or de-escalation as required for the position.
