Registered Nurse (RN)
Pay range: starting at $45.00 per hour (DOE) depending on experience and qualifications.
Shift: 4/2 rotation schedule, 7-3 (AM) shift available.
General PurposeThe primary responsibility is to supervise the day‑to‑day nursing activities of the facility during your tour of duty. Supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and may be required by the Director of Nursing (DON) or Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to ensure the highest quality care at all times.
Essential DutiesThese duties form the essential functions of the position. Work may include additional similar or related responsibilities.
Administrative Functions- Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing day‑to‑day nursing functions in accordance with regulations.
- Develop, maintain, and update written policies and procedures for the nursing service department.
- Ensure reference material (PDRs, regulations, professional standards) at nurses’ stations is current.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date Nursing Service Procedures Manual reflecting day‑to‑day practices.
- Ensure all nursing personnel comply with the procedures in the manual.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary.
- Review policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions; recommend revisions to the Director.
- Develop coordination methods for nursing services with other resident services.
- Ensure personnel compliance with job descriptions.
- Participate in the facility’s quality assurance program for nursing services.
- Participate in government agency inspections and surveys.
- Review and update resident discharge plans and coordinate planning with the Director.
- Plan nursing services for residents’ discharge requirements.
- Meet with staff and support personnel to plan services, programs, and activities.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Complete accident/incident reports as necessary.
- Interpret policies and procedures for personnel, residents, visitors, and agencies.
- Perform administrative duties such as medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting.
- Maintain confidentiality of user IDs, passwords, and protected health information and report violations.
- Report any known or suspected unauthorized access attempts to the Administrator.
- Attend facility committee meetings (Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Quality Assessment, etc.).
- Prepare written and/or oral reports of nursing program activities for committees.
- Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee.
- Assist in developing the Care Plan Committee agenda.
- Review and provide discharge plans to the Care Plan Committee.
- Implement committee recommendations as instructed by the Director.
- Ensure sufficient licensed practical/registered nurses for your tour of duty.
- Ensure sufficient certified nursing assistants for routine care needs.
- Develop work assignments and assist in task completion.
- Delegate administrative authority and accountability to Charge Nurses.
- Ensure all nursing assistants are graduated from an approved training program.
- Supervise nurse aide trainees under a licensed nurse.
- Conduct daily rounds to verify compliance with nursing standards; report findings.
- Monitor absenteeism; report adequacy of staffing to the Director.
- Enforce dress codes, policies, and procedures.
- Review complaints and grievances from staff; report as required.
- Develop rapport with inter‑department personnel to maintain nursing services.
- Create and maintain a warm, positive environment throughout the unit and shift.
- Conduct shift meetings to identify and correct problem areas.
- Review workforce and recommend changes to the Director.
- Participate in employee performance evaluations and staffing determinations.
- Ensure fair and impartial disciplinary action.
- Report occupational exposures, fraud incidents, and computer workstation security.
- Inform staff of new admissions, arrival times, and room assignments.
- Prepare rooms for new admissions.
- Greet admitted residents and escort them to rooms.
- Make rounds with physicians as needed.
