Job Summary

Texas A&M Geography Department seeks an experienced administrative professional to support the Department Head, coordinate departmental operations, faculty processes, and oversee administrative staff.

Responsibilities
  • Direct departmental administrative operations, establishing strategic objectives and managing workflow.
  • Develop and implement administrative policies and process improvements.
  • Serve as primary executive support to the Department Head, managing priorities and ensuring compliance.
  • Handle sensitive personnel, review, and administrative records.
  • Prepare, analyze, and compile reports to support decision‑making.
  • Oversee academic scheduling and classroom coordination.
  • Manage facilities, space allocation, and key control.
  • Facilitate communication between leadership and support units (HR, Business Services, IT).
  • Plan logistics for meetings, travel, events, and special projects.
  • Coordinate faculty recruitment, hiring, promotion, and tenure processes.
  • Support international faculty and research staff immigration and appointment processes.
  • Oversee faculty workload reporting and graduate milestones.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate administrative staff and student employees.
  • Approve employee leave requests and act as the Department Head's delegate in Workday and Concur.
  • Provide backup front‑office support for room scheduling and equipment checkout.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience.
  • At least six years of office administration experience.
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask, work cooperatively, and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Experience with TAMU systems such as Interfolio, Docu Sign, VP Faculty Affairs.
  • Familiarity with TAMU Registrar policies and procedures.
Salary

Compensation commensurate based on education and experience.
