POSITION:
The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Animal Breeding. Candidates for Assistant Professor will be tenure-track and candidates for Associate Professor will be considered for either tenure-track or tenure upon hire depending on qualifications with demonstrated potential to develop an exemplary teaching, research, and service portfolio.
This is a 9-month, full-time appointment with research (50%), teaching (40%), and service (10%) responsibilities and an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026.
GENERAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary focus of this position will be to contribute to cutting-edge research and teaching to advance animal breeding in livestock production systems and educate future disciplinary leaders. The successful candidate will enhance a multidisciplinary faculty in animal science. Developing and leading an extramurally funded, internationally recognized research program in animal breeding will be expected. An individual's emphasis area of research may align with the successful candidate's strengths (examples may include but are not limited to genetic evaluation of traditional and emerging novel traits, evaluation of selection strategies for diverse production environments, development of genetic/genomic indices as components of multidisciplinary applications, provision of genomic components for big data livestock applications, breeding strategies that improve specific discipline areas, etc.).
The successful candidate will contribute to the educational mission of the Department of Animal Science through teaching activities that enhance undergraduate and graduate curricula as well as engage disciplinary stakeholders at the state, national, and international levels. Potential courses may include, but are not limited to, ANSC 305 and ANSC 628, Animal Breeding. Engagement with industry breed associations and livestock improvement groups are desired.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in Animal Science or a related field emphasizing animal breeding. All faculty members in these appointments are expected to make significant contributions in scholarly research, teaching, and service. A demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in research, successful grantsmanship, and contributing to the undergraduate and graduate programs through teaching and mentoring is required.
