Primary
Purpose:
Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at assigned school. Counsel students to fully develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special population students.
QualificationsEducation/Certification:
- A master’s degree in guidance and counseling
- Valid Texas counseling certificate
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Experience: Two years teaching experience
Essential Job Functions- Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students.
- Help teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
- Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop educational plans and career awareness.
- Counseling individuals and small groups about their concerns.
- Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
- Work with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students.
- Use an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services.
- Participate in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing program.
- Interpret test and other appraisal results appropriately.
- Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs.
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of guidance program and make changes based on findings.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in guidance and counseling area.
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
Supervise assigned counseling aide(s) and clerical employee(s).

Regularly sit, talk or hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequent repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms; vision abilities include close vision; color vision; regularly work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; noise level is usually moderate.
The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration, requiring attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Predictable and regular attendance expected.
