Position: Early Childhood Teacher I

Responsibilities

  • Assume classroom oversight in the event of a teacher’s absence.
  • Plan and implement the daily curriculum using developmentally appropriate, play‑based, and emergent approaches.
  • Develop and maintain a philosophy of child learning, social‑emotional development, and positive guidance.
  • Design and implement project‑based curriculum that integrates interest‑ and learning‑areas for children.
  • Observe and document child progress through anecdotal notes, photographs, and videos, and use assessment tools for intentional planning.
  • Assist all children, including those with developmental needs, to fully participate and create a strong classroom community.
  • Establish individual and group learning goals in coordination with families.
  • Attend family conferences and share progress reports twice per year.
  • Mentor college students and guide them in connecting theory to practice.
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor activities to ensure safety and direct student employees accordingly.
  • Assist classroom and research staff with data collection and research protocols.
  • Resolve conflicts with children or parents efficiently and provide appropriate accommodations.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with families, colleagues, university faculty, staff, and the community.
  • Maintain clear verbal and written communication with families on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Adhere to all policies of the Children’s Center, Texas A&M University, the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services, SACS/Cognia, and Texas Rising Star for certification and accreditation compliance.
  • Ensure complete and accurate federal, local, state, and program documentation.
  • Collaborate with university researchers to support new knowledge in early childhood care and education and advocate for participating children.
Qualifications
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent with a combination of education and experience.
  • No prior experience required; preferred to have previous administrative or clerical work in a child‑care center.
  • Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment).
  • Knowledge of child growth and development, learning theories, effective learning environments, and teaching strategies.
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of instructional strategies and learning environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and team‑building skills.
  • Ability to give, receive, and reflect on constructive feedback.
  • Cooperative and collaborative working style within a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to mentor and supervise early childhood preservice teachers and student employees.

    ability to lift and move lightweight‑to‑moderately weighted objects; lift and carry children safely; possible exposure to biological hazards.
