Job Title: Instructional Coach- ELA/SS (Secondary) Pool

Reports to: Executive Director Secondary Education

Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale

Dept./Campus: Teacher & Learning

Wage Status: Exempt

Days: 187

Primary Purpose

The primary role of the District Instructional Coach is to support the District’s curriculum. The Coach collaborates with Campus Leadership, Teaching & Learning Directors, and Specialists to:

  • Co‑facilitate collaborative planning, including unit and lesson internalization and effective teaching strategies with teacher teams.
  • Monitor alignment of instruction and assessment to the written curriculum and student outcomes.
  • Implement the district coaching cycle by observing classroom instruction, modeling lessons, and providing timely verbal and written feedback.
  • Provide targeted professional development to teachers.
Education & Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Gifted and Talented supplement or certification.
  • ESL supplement or certification.
  • Experience creating and presenting professional development at the district or campus level.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of the science of reading.
  • Knowledge of structured curricula.
  • Knowledge of TEKS, ELPS, state assessments (STAAR, TELPAS), and CCMR Standards.
  • Knowledge of high‑quality instructional materials (HQIM).
  • Knowledge of curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies including structured academic conversations, vocabulary instruction, higher order thinking questions, and collaborative learning structures.
  • Knowledge of classroom management methodologies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building collaborative structures in educational environments.
  • Skill in using technology as a learning tool in all content areas.
  • Skill in analyzing and reflecting on student data, including work samples, to improve instructional practices.
  • Ability to engage others in collective inquiry and problem‑solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders in groups of various sizes.
Experience
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Experience in training and mentoring/coaching adults preferred.
  • Campus leadership experience.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities

Support Classroom Instruction and Curriculum Implementation (60‑70%)

  • Collaborate with Campus Administrator, C&I Leadership to ensure curriculum implementation with fidelity.
  • Conduct weekly instructional walks to assess alignment and best practices.
  • Provide coaching cycles, including co‑teaching, observation, conferences, and timely feedback.
  • Set student‑centered goals with teachers using data.
  • Assist with written curriculum development and vertical alignment.

Facilitate Collaborative Planning (15‑20%)

  • Facilitate planning meetings using unit/lesson protocols and teaching guidelines.
  • Support teacher teams with lesson objectives, assessment alignment, and data analysis.
  • Recommend interventions and responsive actions based on student achievement data.

Professional Learning (15‑20%)

  • Create a culture of professional learning with campus leadership.
  • Present/facilitate professional development on curriculum, instructional strategies, differentiation, assessments, and new teacher support.
  • Attend district coaching meetings and pursue conferences for professional growth.

Communication & Morale

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with adults to improve instruction.
  • Establish regular meetings with Campus Principal to discuss curriculum and instruction.
  • Communicate effectively with campus and district leadership.
  • Use social media appropriately to enhance professional learning communities.
  • Collaborate with staff to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate ethical practices in professional development.
