As an Assistant Program Director, you will play a pivotal role in helping MBA and specialized master's students at Mays Business School successfully navigate their career journey from graduate school to meaningful employment. Serving as a trusted coach and advisor, you will provide individualized guidance on career strategy, resume development, interview preparation, networking, and long-term professional growth. This role combines hands-on student support with program management responsibilities.

In this position, you will partner closely with academic program teams, faculty, and staff across graduate business programs to deliver an exceptional student experience. You will design and lead engaging career workshops, training sessions, and professional development programs that equip students with the skills and confidence to achieve their goals. Working collaboratively with employers, alumni, and internal stakeholders, you will help create valuable career opportunities and strengthen connections that enhance market awareness and student success.

The ideal candidate brings a passion for mentoring and coaching, knowledge of career development pathways, and an ability to build meaningful relationships across varying audiences. Experience in higher education, particularly within mentoring and coaching students in graduate programs, is highly valued and will position you for success in this dynamic and student-centered role.

What You Need to Know

Salary: $60,000 - $68,000/annually.

Qualifications

Required

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resource Management, a STEM discipline, Higher Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six years of related experience.

A Well-Qualified Candidate Will Also Possess:

  • Masters' degree – MBA, Business, Human Resource Management, a STEM discipline, Higher Education, or related field.
  • Experience working with graduate business students in higher education.
  • Training and development experiences in a corporate and or higher education setting.
  • Professional experience in career services or providing academic support for career path planning.
  • Some leadership experience.
  • Professional experience as a recruiter with talent acquisition emphasis.
  • Experience of working cross-functionally across business disciplines such as MIS, HR, Marketing, and Accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office facets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of career planning and career management skill.
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of business management roles and career paths.
  • High attention to detail in written communication, work processes and professional presence.
  • Effective analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • High functional competencies in standard business technology applications and tools.
  • Strong presentation and education skills at the individual, small, and large group levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Resourceful, positive team player.
  • Proficiency with virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.) and familiarity with online learning platforms and virtual collaboration tools.

Career Coaching and Advising

  • Individually and in affinity groups, work with early career master's students in support of their growth along a career development path.
  • Advise and guide students in areas including self-awareness, career exploration, career interest, fit and career management skills.
  • Review, assess, and provide students with constructive feedback on progress and actions in each career development area.
  • Work with students to guide, critique, and revise multiple forms of written & verbal communication.
  • Coach/advise students in resume/cover letter/Linked In profile development, interview preparation, networking skills, professional presence, elevator pitch, personal brand development, and translating functional skills into business competencies.

  • Develop and deliver state-of-the-art career education and readiness programs for students.
  • Continually innovate, enhance and set new standards in career education and preparation.
  • Provides students with lifelong career management skills, emphasizing the integration into a business-oriented career path.

Program Management

  • In close coordination with assigned MS Program teams, develop and implement an overall career management strategy to support career and professional development goals for program students.
