The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Bioinformatics/Biological AI . This is a 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date of Fall 2026 . This position is one of seven faculty hires the Department of Biology will make during the 2026–2027 academic year across a range of research areas.

As part of a major departmental expansion aligned with our 2020–2029 Strategic Plan , this search aims to strengthen research excellence across broad areas of biology by supporting a research program that incorporates bioinformatics or artificial intelligence approaches. The research themes could align with core areas of departmental focus, including microbiology and biological Resilience, Synthetic Biology, Evolution, neuroscience, and Biological Clocks .

We are especially interested in candidates who employ interdisciplinary, collaborative, and innovative approaches to address compelling questions in the biological sciences through computational, quantitative, and data-driven methods. Successful applicants are expected to develop and sustain an externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate education, and engage in departmental and university service. We welcome applicants whose research spans disciplinary boundaries and supports research programs ranging from basic biological mechanisms to applied biomedical, environmental, or translational sciences.

In support of growth in the biological sciences, major remodeling of teaching space is underway, and architectural design for a new Biology building is in progress to add significant research space for our faculty.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline, and demonstrate a strong track record of impactful research in bioinformatics, computational biology, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or related areas relevant to the biological sciences. We seek candidates whose work demonstrates creativity, research excellence, and strong potential for interdisciplinary impact, particularly through connections to one or more of the department’s focal areas:
Biological Resilience, Synthetic Biology, Evolution, or Biological Clocks.
