Job Overview

Senior Marine Instrumentation Specialist – Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. Staff position focused on maintaining, operating, calibrating, and repairing electronic and electromechanical scientific and laboratory oceanographic equipment. The role supports research cruises, designs and fabricates new equipment, and provides technical leadership within the Geochemical & Environmental Research Group.

• Maintain, operate, calibrate, repair, and troubleshoot electronic and electromechanical oceanographic and laboratory equipment at GERG facility and during field operations, including monitoring and downloading data.
• Assist with installation, integration, requisition, and vendor coordination of new, third‑party, and leg‑specific scientific equipment and spares.
• Support project management and senior scientific leadership by preparing equipment documentation and operations manuals, maintaining accurate inventory records, and assisting with disposal or surplus of outdated or non‑usable equipment.
• Participate in oceanographic research fieldwork at sea and provide guidance to assigned staff.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Five years of related experience.
• Ability to lift, move, push, or pull moderate‑weighted objects and work outdoors under varied weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.
• Ability to operate industrial equipment such as forklifts, trucks, trailers, and small vessels.
• Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) assembly and inspection.
• Experience using a multimeter for circuit troubleshooting or debugging printed circuit boards.
• Knowledge of oceanographic equipment, instrumentation, and sensors.
• Understanding of principles of environmental field work.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory and industrial safety procedures.
• Fundamental understanding of electronics, component identification, and schematic interpretation.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
• Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills.

Salary will be commensurate based on the selected candidate’s education and experience. This position is grant‑funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding.
