Structural Engineer (Mid-level)

As a member of Garver’s growing Water Design Center, the Structural Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the development of Structural Designs in support of various Water Business Line projects. The majority of assignments will be related to developing structural designs for new water and wastewater treatment plants or improvements to existing facilities. The Structural Engineer must have a strong knowledge base of engineering principals including concrete, steel, and masonry design.
Knowledge of the provisions of the International Building Code and its referenced material Codes is preferred. Candidates must have strong technical problem solving and critical thinking skills, be self motivated, enjoy team-oriented work, and have good oral and written communications. Candidates must have a basic understanding of the multi-discipline practices required for the implementation of infrastructure capital improvements. Candidates must have strong communications skills as required to assist project teams and maintain internal client relationships.
Candidates must be proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook. Experience with Auto Cad, Revit, or Microstation is preferred. Candidates must also have a basic knowledge of finite element modeling using plates and frame elements.
- Be technically competent in aspects of structural engineering.
- Work with a team of multi-disciplined project engineers, design engineers, and BIM Technicians in the development of construction plans and specifications for water and wastewater treatment plant projects.
- Work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Assist in the development of project budgets including the development of detailed project instructions, scope of work, level of effort, and associated man-hour estimates.
- Be responsible for time management and work product quality.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date project accounting on all assigned projects.
- Conduct written and oral project reporting for clients and team leader, including project design status, upcoming milestones, project accounting, percent completes, and progress reports.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of Quality Assurance and Quality Control Plans for water and wastewater treatment projects.
- Assist with internal and external project workshops.
- Be responsible for continuing education and learning based on project needs, as well as overall needs of the team.
- Bachelor’s Degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited program
- 5-10 years of technical experience in structural design engineering
- Basic understanding of structural engineering design in concrete, masonry, and structural steel
- PE or ability to obtain a PE registration with 2 years
- Master’s Degree in civil or structural engineering
- Registration as a PE or be willing to take the NCEES Professional Engineer exam within 2 years
- Working knowledge of Revit CAD programs
- Structural complexities associated with water and wastewater treatment equipment
- Working with a multi-disciplinary team comprised of process, structural, building mechanical, electrical, and Instrumentation and control disciplines
- Active participation in local professional organizations.
