Position Overview
Postdoctoral Researcher in the J.Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University, working on a DoD‑funded advanced semiconductor prototyping facility.
Responsibilities- Design, assemble and commission a modular testbed facility to characterize transient and steady‑state thermal performance of next‑generation 3
DHI microelectronics. - Document testbed design, functions and usage; develop and deliver training to students and researchers.
- Interface with industry and academic partners to ensure thermal measurements meet their needs; develop test plans for customer semiconductor packages and in‑house 3
DHI thermal‑management solutions. - Design thermal test vehicles, set up test fixtures, drive experimental design and execution, and perform data analysis to draw conclusions.
- Conduct transient thermal measurements for 3
DHI semiconductor prototyping fab facility customers. - Develop and test two‑phase thermal‑management strategies to mitigate identified thermal bottlenecks.
- Mentor thermal graduate students; write project reports for customers.
- Ensure adherence to all safety and housekeeping standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related field, preferably with a focus on thermal‑fluid science research.
- Experience with experimental thermal‑fluid transport research or thermal solutions for electronic devices.
- Demonstrated track record in experimental thermal‑fluid transport research and developing thermal solutions for electronic devices.
- Experience with LabVIEW programming and equipment integration.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate across disciplines, and willingness to mentor others.
- Deep technical understanding of conduction, convection (natural/passive and forced/active) and radiation under transient conditions; multi‑phase thermal‑fluid transport phenomena.
- Proficiency with MATLAB or equivalent analytics tools; experience with ANSYS, COMSOL or comparable modeling packages.
- Knowledge of statistical data analysis and strong communication skills.
- Ability to maintain security and integrity of critical infrastructure.
Texas A&M Engineering and the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) offer competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits and a collaborative research environment. All positions are security‑sensitive and subject to criminal history investigation.
