Job DescriptionThe Environmental Health and Safety Technician I works under supervision to support a designated area within the university’s environmental health and safety program. The role focuses on routine environmental health and safety tasks, including equipment testing, inspections, record keeping, and emergency response.
Responsibilities- Test chemical fume hoods—perform qualitative and quantitative evaluations with specialized equipment.
- Visually inspect fume hoods, report mechanical malfunctions, and submit repair requests; track repairs until completion.
- Document test results and update the BioRAFT software system with current user and equipment information.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments in all functional areas.
- Calibrate, inspect, and maintain safety equipment.
- Implement proper waste management practices and maintain inspection records.
- Participate in training and development opportunities.
- Respond to emergencies in collaboration with other EHS personnel and assist emergency responders as needed.
- High school graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Class “C” driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment).
- Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Preferred:
One year of work experience or some college coursework.
