Job Description

The Environmental Health and Safety Technician I works under supervision to support a designated area within the university’s environmental health and safety program. The role focuses on routine environmental health and safety tasks, including equipment testing, inspections, record keeping, and emergency response.

Responsibilities
  • Test chemical fume hoods—perform qualitative and quantitative evaluations with specialized equipment.
  • Visually inspect fume hoods, report mechanical malfunctions, and submit repair requests; track repairs until completion.
  • Document test results and update the BioRAFT software system with current user and equipment information.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments in all functional areas.
  • Calibrate, inspect, and maintain safety equipment.
  • Implement proper waste management practices and maintain inspection records.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities.
  • Respond to emergencies in collaboration with other EHS personnel and assist emergency responders as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Class “C” driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment).
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Preferred:
    One year of work experience or some college coursework.
