Assistant Controller – Texas A&M Foundation
The Texas A&M Foundation is seeking an experienced, mission‑driven Assistant Controller to join our Accounting team onsite. This key leadership role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and effectiveness of the Foundation’s financial operations directly supporting our mission to build a brighter future for Texas A&M University.

As the Assistant Controller, you will serve as a strategic leader within the Accounting team and play a critical role in maintaining transparency, accountability, and compliance across the organization. You will guide the development of systems, processes, and internal controls that ensure our financial data is reliable, timely, and aligned with GAAP and fund accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Lead the coordination of the annual audit and partner with external auditors
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and internal financial regulations
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
- Manage daily accounting operations and support strategic financial initiatives
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements
- Provide data‑driven insights that support mission‑aligned decision‑making
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing – this is required
- 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or a related field (or combination of experience and education)
- Strong understanding of technical GAAP
- Experience with financial reporting and regulatory compliance
- Ability to communicate internal control requirements and remediate deficiencies
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications
- Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Prior public accounting experience (audit or tax)
- Experience in nonprofit or higher education finance
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism
- Strong analytical, detail‑oriented, and collaborative mindset
