TFS Dispatcher - Attack

Job Overview

The TFS Dispatcher I – Initial Attack will be responsible for dispatching agency and inter‑agency resources for wildfire response. The dispatcher will disseminate daily intelligence reports regarding resource availability, fire danger, weather data, lightning maps, fire weather warnings, duty times, supervisors, and dispatch area response activity. The position may involve occasional overnight travel to meetings or training and requires maintaining good communication with TICC and statewide fire situation updates.

• Dispatch assigned resources and serve as a communication link for incidents, aviation management, resource ordering, and logistical support for incident response.
• Maintain current and accurate records of resource availability and dispatch to wildfires or other activities.
• Monitor weather changes, communicate regularly with field personnel and supervisors, and maintain situational awareness.
• Maintain all dispatch records and logs, provide feedback on dispatch systems and procedures, and ensure timely completion of fire reports and open records requests.
• Assist with implementation of new systems and technology that aid operational information flow.
• Coordinate and review processing of FAMIS transactions, mileage reports, travel vouchers and purchase orders.
• Manage and account for assigned TFS credit cards, vehicle log book, and equipment per applicable laws.
• Participate in necessary and recommended training to maintain readiness and assist with agency training efforts.
• Be eligible for additional out‑of‑state duty as per the Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide.
• Provide support for other programs as required.

• High school graduate or equivalent (required). Formal education in emergency response dispatch or related field preferred.
• No prior experience required. Preferred experience in wildland firefighting or emergency response dispatch; familiarity with state radio/dispatch protocol.
• Must have a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
• Ability to use PC-based programs and software and the latest dispatch software and equipment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Validity of NWCG RADO and Dispatch Recorder certifications is preferred.

Salary: $20.45 hourly (minimum)

Work schedule:

10-hour rotating shift; may increase to 12-hour shift during high activity. Must be available for holidays, weekends, and occasional overnight travel.
